Upgrades

People often buy a PC with the highest processor speed and biggest hard disk, but there's often no need to do this because they aren't the only important factors to consider when buying a PC. The average salesman will try and convince their customer to spend as much as they can, but they don't want to sell the best product available - if they do, the customer won't come back. PC's are often deliberately sold under-specified in certain areas, with the hope that the customer will come back asking for something quicker. Often, a new machine won't be required - this is where MJS can help...

Mother Board

A fairly simple upgrade costing only the fraction of a new machine can boost the performance to give a 6 month old PC a new lease of life. It may be as simple as a RAM/memory or hard drive upgrade, or may be more complex and require a replacement mother board. Ask MJS to give your machine a health check - it might save you a fortune in money and a lot of time transferring files and programs.

MEMORY

As a PC ages, the bloat-ware forced upon us my Microsoft (often in the guise of a service pack or critical update) and various software packages can add to the downturn of speed. Many packages install a tiny application which is started at boot time and spends it’s life as a tiny icon in the system tray (the collection of small icons next to the clock). These supposedly increase the opening time of the main application when it’s needed, however, lots of these all taking a bit of memory adds up to a lot of memory wasted on fast start applications who’s advantage is lost by the reduction of available memory for the application. Try to avoid these, they are normally not work installing and have very little effect over opening times. There are many other applications which help drag the speed of your system down. Get it serviced to remove as much junk as possible and it could give the machine another year or two of useable life.
